2017 WNBA season Week 6: 24 Forever

(LVJ's 2017 WNBA season round-up Week 6)

When she was in grade school, all Tamika Catchings wanted to do was to make the NBA. Little did she know that the WNBA would be formed, and that it would give her the opportunity to make her dreams come true.

The city of Indiana helped Catchings become the legend that she is today: a WNBA champion, MVP, five-time defensive player, seven-time all-WNBA first team member, 10-time all-star and 20 Greatest WNBA players member, on top of being a four-time Olympic basketball gold medalist for the United States.

During her time with the Indiana Fever, Catchings has set basically all records for the squad, for both the regular season and playoffs. Fever basketball wouldn't be where it is now without Catchings. The same can be said the other way around. The Fever helped put Catchings in a position to be the superstar of the franchise.

Only a few individuals in the league can define a franchise the way Catchings did, putting the Fever on the map. And on June 24, the Fever honored all of Catchings' contributions to the city and the sport in general, retiring her no. 24 jersey during the halftime of the Fever-Los Angeles Sparks duel to immortalize her legacy.

It was only fitting for her no. 24 jersey to be retired. No one will be able to wear no. 24 for Indiana now, because there will never be another Tamika Catchings in the WNBA.

Taurasi now the WNBA all-time leading scorer

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi, regarded by many as the greatest women's basketball player of all time, finally passed Tina Thompson as the all-time leading scorer in WNBA history during the Mercury's game against the Sparks last week.

Taurasi, who also broke the record for most three-pointers made, only strengthened her GOAT case. Having signed an extension through 2020, expect Taurasi to set more records and raise the bar even higher.
