The world no. 3 Australian Opals have announced on Wednesday their 21-player pool for the 2017 FIBA Asia Women's Cup, which kicks off in July.
Australia will have a lot of experienced players in the pool, led by six women who participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics: Erin Phillips, Marianna Tolo, Rachel Jarry, Tessa Lavey, Katie Ray Ebzery, and Laura Hodges.
Also in the pool are Abby Bishop, Sara Blicavs, Stephanie Blicavs, Alex Bunton, Maddie Garrick, Kelsey Griffin, Natalie Hurst, Alice Kunek, Lauren Mansfield, Carley Mijovic, Jenna O'Hea, Alanna Smith, Belinda Snell, Louella Tomlinson, and Kristy Wallace.
Unlike in previous qualifiers where Australia would just battle New Zealand in a best-of-three series, the Oceania-based countries are now merged with the Asian zone.
Australia is in Group B of the 2017 FIBA Asia Women's Cup which shall be held in India from July 23 to 29. They will face Japan, Korea, and the Philippines in the group stages.
The semi-finalists of the tournament will advance to the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
The Opals will head to Phoenix, Arizona for a selection camp stretching the last week of June and first week
