Defending FIBA Women's AmeriCup champion Canada has started their preparation for the continental championship by sending 12 players to a pair of exhibition tournaments in Spain and France, per Canada Basketball.

Leading the Canadians in the European tour is Olympian Miah-Marie Langlois. Also part of the squad are Laura Dally, Shay Colley, Saicha Grant-Allen, Sami Hill, Alyssa Jerome, Bridget Carleton, Ruth Hamblin, Jamie Scott, Laeticia Amihere, Katherine and Michelle Plouffe.

Canada will face Spain on May 26 and Japan on May 27 in Torrelavega, Spain before heading to Bordeaux, France to battle Montenegro on May 31, France on June 1, and Ukraine on June 2.

All of the European countries are participating in the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket Women from June 16 to 25 where the top five finishers will earn spots to the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

Japan, meanwhile, is the defending champion of the FIBA Asia Cup.

The 2017 FIBA Women's AmeriCup will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from August 7 to 13. Ten teams will be participating, with three spots up for grabs in the World Cup.

Canada is eager to continue their impressive streak of World Cup appearances as they are gunning for a fourth consecutive ticket to the tournament. It will be slightly different this time given the recent retirements of Tamara Tatham, Lizanne Murphy, and Shona Thorburn, but it will also be an opportunity for the younger players to step up.
