Lynx sign Pierson, Stars land De Souza, Dream bring in Kiesel

The changes continue in the WNBA as two more players signed with new teams for the upcoming season.

The three-time WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx just got even deeper after signing veteran forward Plenette Pierson. Pierson is a two-time WNBA champion, and her experience and leadership aren't the only things she could give the Lynx.

Pierson has added the three-point shot as part of her game. In the last two seasons, she made 47 triples after making only 17 outside shots 12 seasons prior. In the 2016 season, she averaged 11.9 PPG and 4.6 RPG.

With the Lynx sometimes going with small ball line-ups, Pierson will definitely be of help.

The San Antonio Stars, meanwhile, added veteran center Erika De Souza. The Stars could use her post presence and rebounding whether she starts or backs up Jayne Appel-Marinelli. The Stars have also re-signed Kayla Alexander.

With De Souza gone and the Elena Delle Donne-for-Stefanie Dolson-package deal official, the Chicago Sky will be rolling with Dolson as their primary center and rim protector.

In other signings, the Atlanta Dream signed guard Brianna Kiesel, who last played for the Dallas Wings.

The Dream have also re-signed guards Meighan Simmons and Layshia Clarendon, who had a career year for the Dream last season. Clarendon averaged 10.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.5 APG, and shot 46.6 percent from the field -- all career-highs.

With McCoughtry sitting out this season, much will be expected from her and the Dream's other backcourt weapon Tiffany Hayes. Hayes was the second leading scorer of Atlanta last season behind McCoughtry, while Clarendon was fourth.
