Stars name Vickie Johnson as head coach

The San Antonio Stars announced on Thursday that Vickie Johnson will be the team's new head coach. Johnson will succeed Dan Hughes.

Per the Stars website:
"The San Antonio Stars (on Thursday) announced that the team has hired former Stars player and assistant coach Vickie Johnson as the ninth head coach in franchise history. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Having spent 10 years in San Antonio, first as a player, then as an assistant coach, this city feels like home,” said Johnson. “Our Stars players are young, talented and hardworking. We also have a dedicated fan base in a great basketball town, and I’m looking forward to getting to work this spring when we tip off our 15th season in San Antonio.”"
The 12th overall pick of the 1997 WNBA Draft, Johnson spent four seasons with the Stars from 2006 to 2009, before eventually working as an assistant coach starting in 2011.

Johnson has career averages of 10.3 PPG, 4 RPG, and 2.9 APG in 410 games played.

The new head coach will now be in charge of handling talents like Kayla McBride, Danielle Robinson, Moriah Jefferson, and Dearica Hamby.
