Taurasi named USAB Female Athlete of the Year for 4th time

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi was named on Wednesday the 2016 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year, marking the fourth time she has won the distinction.

From the USA Basketball website:
"In honor of her impressive performance at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and with the USA Basketball Women’s National Team this past summer, Diana Taurasi earned an unprecedented fourth USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year award. Taurasi previously earned the honor in 2006, 2010 and 2012.
“I have been really lucky to learn and play with the best in the game,” Taurasi said. “It makes one go to a different level.”
Taurasi led the United States in the 2016 Rio Olympics in scoring to help the team win its sixth consecutive gold medal in the games.

Her win at the Rio games made it four Olympic gold medals in total across her basketball resume.

Outside of USA Basketball, Taurasi had a terrific year overall. She led UMMC Ekaterinburg to the 2015-16 EuroLeague Women title.

She also helped the Mercury reach the semi-finals of the 2016 WNBA season in spite of finishing with only the eighth seed.
