Defending FIBA EuroLeague Women champion UMMC Ekaterinburg edged French side ESBVA-LM in the annual FIBA Europe SuperCup, 66-63 last Friday.

Four players finished in double-digits for the Russian club, led by Spanish wing Alba Torrens who had 17 points and six assists. Brittney Griner added a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, plus three blocks. Emma Meesseman had 11 points and eight boards.

UMMC was up by eight, 66-58 in the final two minutes of the game before the home side tried to stage a late coup. Marielle Amant scored the next four points for ESBVA-LM.

Olivia Epoupa then split her free throw attempts before Torrens missed two of her own on the other side to leave the door open for the hosts.

Olga Arteshina, however, turned the ball over with five seconds left. Deanna Nolan recorded the steal although Aby Gaye recovered possession. But Val Ayayi's try at the buzzer failed to hit the mark.

Alina Iagupova led the EuroCup champions with 17 points. Ayayi tallied 14 points while Olivia Epoupa added eight points, five boards, and four assists.
