The Los Angeles Sparks moved a step closer to history after defeating the Connecticut Sun in overtime, 98-92 on Friday night.
The win enabled the Sparks to improve to 20-1 in the 2016 WNBA regular season and tie the 1998 Houston Comets' record for best start in WNBA history.
Jantel Lavender came off the bench to score 25 points on 11-for-18 field goal shooting and grab 10 rebounds. Kristi Toliver added 24 points while Nneka Ogwumike also tallied a double-double with 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting and 10 rebounds.
The Sparks can own the record if they beat the Atlanta Dream on Sunday afternoon. The game will be shown on NBA TV.
