2016 WNBA season scores: Ogwumike notches new career-high, leads Sun to win

Don't count the Connecticut Sun out just yet. Chiney Ogwumike scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Sun to their most impressive victory of the season yet, beating the Dallas Wings in wire-to-wire fashion, 89-78 on Wednesday at the College Park Center.

Ogwumike shot 9-for-15 from the field. She also grabbed 15 rebounds and swatted away seven shots as the Sun improved to 4-3 in July and 7-16 overall in the regular season, just two games behind the eighth spot in the league standings.

Jasmine Thomas had 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting, while Courtney Williams and Morgan Tuck came off the bench to score 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Sun dictated the pace from the get-go, controlling the rebounding battle and running in transition to generate baskets. The squad also played with great balance, getting its players open looks from beyond the arc and good position around the rim.

Connecticut built a double-digit advantage midway in the second quarter after Tuck and Williams combined for three outside shots, 35-24. The team would lead by as much as 17 before the halftime break, and was never threatened after.

The Sun had a 41-29 edge in rebounding, and also had seven more assists than the Wings, 22-15.

Dallas dropped to 9-15 after the loss, the team's fifth straight. The team is currently 10th in the overall team standings.

Odyssey Sims had 20 points and eight assists for the Wings. Courtney Paris added 14 points and 11 boards. Plenette Pierson contributed 12 points but Skylar Diggins was limited to only six points on 2-for-9 shooting. Dallas shot 38.4 percent as a team.

New York Liberty 88, Washington Mystics 81

Rebecca Allen had a career-high 19 points off the bench which included four triples as the Liberty (18-7) extended the Mystics' (9-14) losing streak to six games.

Brittany Boyd added 17 points while Amanda Zahui B. Scored 15 points as New York tallied a WNBA record 69 bench points.

Emma Meesseman led the Mystics with 20 points on 6-for-13 shooting. Stefanie Dolson added 13 points and six rebounds.

The Mystics remain in eighth spot in the league standings.

Connecticut Sun 89, Dallas Wings 78

Minnesota Lynx 83, Atlanta Dream 65

The Lynx (20-4) stretched their winning streak to five games after dispatching the Dream (12-12).

Four players scored in double-digits for the Lynx, led by Seimone Augustus' 19 points on 8-for-12 field goal shooting. Sylvia Fowles had 14 points.

The Lynx clinched a spot to the playoffs with the win, and moved to just half a game behind the league-leading Los Angeles Sparks (20-3), which have likewise clinched a postseason berth.

Layshia Clarendon was the only double-digit scorer for the Dream with 11 points.

Seattle Storm 83, San Antonio Stars 69

Jewell Loyd made her first five field goals and wound up with 25 points on 11-for-17 shooting to lead the Storm (9-14) past the Stars (5-18).

Breanna Stewart added 22 points and six rebounds. After the Stars came to within four points, 63-59, the Storm launched a 16-0 run in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

Moriah Jefferson led the Stars, which have lost five straight matches, with 25 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Alex Montgomery had 13 points including three long-range shots and six assists.
