2016 FIBA OQT Women Day 4 round-up: China, France, Spain, Turkey enter Rio

China, France, Spain, and Turkey all picked up wins in Day 4 of the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women to secure spots to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. That leaves one last ticket to Rio up for grabs, and it shall be disputed by four nations.

Here is the Day 4 round-up of the tournament.

Spain 70, Korea 50



Spain easily dispatched Korea in the first quarter-finals match-up of Day 4 to secure a spot to the Olympics.

Sancho Lyttle scored 20 points on 9-for-16 field goal shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds while Alba Torrens added 16 points. Anna Cruz contributed 13 points.

Korea took an 11-10 lead momentarily in the first quarter after a three-point play by Yang Ji Hee, but Spain responded with nine unanswered points to take a 19-11 lead after the opening period.

Spain held a 44-22 advantage in points in the paint, and also had 12 more rebounds than Korea, 40-28. Spain won despite shooting only 1-for-16 from three-point area.

Park Jisu was the lone double-digit scorer for Korea with 10 points.

China 84, Belarus 70



China used a 29-14 third quarter to breakaway from Belarus and score an 84-70 win. The victory enabled China to return to the Olympic Games for the fourth straight time.

Up 36-32 in the third quarter, China scored eight unanswered points capped by a triple from Chen Xiao Jia to extend its lead to double-digits, 44-32.

China then closed the third quarter on a 9-2 run to make it a commanding 61-42 lead entering the final quarter.

Shao Ting topscored with 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Chen Nan added 15 points. China shot 50 percent from the field and assisted 26 of its 33 field goal makes in the win.

Lindsey Harding scored 22 points and dished out six assists for Belarus, while Yelena Leuchanka added 19 points and nine rebounds.

Turkey 71, Cuba 45



Powerhouse squad Turkey scored an easy win as well, dominating Cuba, 71-45 to punch a ticket to the Rio Olympics.

Cuba gave Turkey a good challenge in the first quarter, with Ineidis Casanova's triples pushing Cuba to an 12-9 lead.

But Turkey controlled the rest of the first half, outscoring Cuba 26-12 in the second quarter to take a 42-24 lead entering the halftime break. Turkey led by as much as 27 points in the victory.

Lara Sanders had 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting and six rebounds while Nevriye Yilmaz added 17 points and 10 boards.

Casanova was the lone double-digit scorer for Cuba with 15 points. Marlen Cepeda had eight points and eight rebounds.

France 90, Argentina 53


The host nation cruised past Argentina to likewise return to the Olympic Games.

After taking a slim 18-15 lead in the opening period, France outscored Argentina 47-22 in the middle quarters to pull away.

Endy Miyem scored 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Sandrine Gruda added 11 points and eight rebounds. Captain Celine Dumerc dished out 10 assists and was a plus-33.

France dominated almost every statistical category in the win. The team had a whopping 62-31 lead in rebounding, and also had 16 more assists than Argentina, 26-10.

The home side also had a 19-5 disparity in second chance points, 52-20 in points in the paint, and 18-3 in fastbreak points.

Classification

The four losing teams in the quarter-finals of the tournament will clash for the lone remaining ticket for the Olympics. Cuba will take on Korea, while Belarus will battle Argentina. The winners will face in the battle for fifth match. The winner of that match advances to the Rio Olympics.
