2016 WNBA MVP Race: Week 2

The Minnesota Lynx and Los Angeles Sparks remain undefeated after two weeks of action in the 2016 WNBA regular season. While both squads have drawn lots of support from their revitalized benches, the main reason behind the Lynx and Sparks' success early in the season is their superstars.

Here is Week 2 of the 2016 WNBA MVP Race.

1. Candace Parker (Last week: 3)
Parker kept pushing the Los Angeles Sparks to new heights over the past week. The Sparks improved to 5-0, picking up wins over Chicago and Connecticut. Parker tallied 26 points including 12-for-14 from the foul line, nine rebounds, and three assists against the Sky then followed it up with 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting, four rebounds, and four assists against the Sun.

2. Maya Moore (Last week: 1)
Moore exploded for 34 points on 18 shots in the Lynx's 85-78 win over the Phoenix Mercury, before having nine points and eight assists in a close win against the Indiana Fever.

3. Tina Charles (Last week: 2)
Although the New York Liberty lost back to back overtime games over the past week, Charles shouldered the squad and showed why she remains one of the best post players in the league. Against the Sparks, Charles tallied 17 points and 16 rebounds. Against the Atlanta Dream, Charles had 29 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and seven steals.

4. Jewell Loyd (Last week: 7)
The Storm have won two out of their last three games to improve to 2-3 overall in the season, and Loyd has been a big part of why the Storm have been able to give quality opponents a tough challenge. Loyd averaged 17.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, and 3.5 APG over the past week, helping the Storm stay competitive while the team continues to strengthen for the future.

5. Angel McCoughtry (Last week: 9)
The addition of new players in the Atlanta Dream roster has given McCoughtry more help, and it has resulted to a better and more dangerous McCoughtry as far as taking charge and closing out games are concerned. McCoughtry scored 15, 26, and 22 in three wins this week for the Dream. The Dream have won four straight and are currently leading the Eastern Conference with a 5-1 record, thanks to a fresher McCoughtry.

6. Sylvia Fowles (Last week: 6)

Fowles has supplied the ample help for the Lynx, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds in a win over the Storm and 18 points and eight rebounds in another win over the Mercury. In those two games, Fowles was an efficient 15-for-22 from the field.

7. Odyssey Sims (Last week: 5)

Sims continues to be the leader of the Dallas Wings while the team is awaiting the return of Skylar Diggins to top form. Sims is averaging 18 PPG, 4 RPG, and 3 APG in the season, while having one of the best free throw percentages at 88 percent.

8. Diana Taurasi (Last week: 8)

Taurasi scored 28 points on 10-for-17 shooting and added four rebounds and four assists in the Mercury's maiden win of the season over the Washington Mystics. In the season, she is averaging 22.6 PPG, 6.4 points better than her 2014 average.

9. Elena Delle Donne (Last week: 4)
Delle Donne struggled from the field this week, shooting only 18-for-44 from the field in three games, two of which lost by the Sky. But the reigning MVP continues to show improvement when it comes to defense. So far in the season, Delle Donne has averages of 18.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 1.6 BPG.

10. Nneka Ogwumike (Last week: NA)

Ogwumike wraps up this week's list. When the Sparks needed more help outside of Parker, it was Ogwumike who carried the squad. Ogwumike had 19 points and nine boards in a win against the Sky, then tallied a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in a win over the Sun. After that stretch, she is now averaging 15.6 PPG and 8.8 RPG in the season, while shooting an astounding 62.8 percent from the field and 95.7 percent from the foul line.
