USA Basketball travels to Europe to open training camp for Rio


The Geno Auriemma-coached United States women's basketball national team heads to Europe for a training camp as part of their preparations for the 2016 Olympic Basketball Tournaments in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Expected to attend the training camp are reigning WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne, Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Stefanie Dolson, Candice Dupree, Brittney Griner, Angel McCoughtry, Candace Parker, Danielle Robinson, Breanna Stewart, and Courtney Vandersloot.

Already in the Olympics are the USA, the defending FIBA World Championship gold medal winner, Australia, Canada, Japan, and Serbia. The winner of the on-going FIBA Africas Championship for Women shall join the group while the remaining slots shall be up for grabs in an Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The women's basketball tournament of the Olympics begins on August 5, 2016.

Team USA will hold training from October 2 to 3 in Barcelona, Spain. The team will face club team Uni Girona in Girona, Spain on October 4, the Italian national team on October 7, and reigning EuroLeague Women champion USK Prague on October 9 in Czech Republic.
