France beats Italy, Spain in 3-nation Paris meet

France swept Italy and Spain in a three-nation tournament they hosted in Paris as part of their final preparations for the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket Women.

The world no. 3 team first defeated Italy, 69-64 with Endy Miyem's 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and seven rebounds leading the way. Hhadydia Minte and Sarah Michel each scored nine points.

Italy was led by Giorgia Sottana and Laura Macchi, who both scored 11 points.

World no. 2 Spain didn't let Italy pick up a win in the meet, edging them 66-62 the next day. Alba Torrens had 19 points and eight boards. Laura Nicholls added 15 points (5-of-9 field goals), five rebounds, and two assists.

The youngster Cecilia Zandalasini had 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting and 5-of-5 free throws for Italy in the game.

While ranked 31st in the world, Italy is expected to take one of the five spots up for grabs in the EuroBasket for the 2018 FIBA Women's World Cup

In the final game, France beat Spain, 65-56 to sweep the tournament. Center Helena Ciak paced France with 13 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting, seven rebounds, and two blocks.

Marielle Amant was perfect from the field, making all five attempts while also hauling down eight rebounds. Veteran guard Celine Dumerc had 10 points, five boards, and six assists.

Torrens and Anna Cruz each had 10 points for Spain but the team shot only 35 percent overall.

The 2017 FIBA EuroBasket Women starts on June 16. Spain is in Group A with Ukraine, Hungary, and host Czech Republic. France is in Group C with Greece, Serbia, and Slovenia. Italy is in Group B with Belarus, Turkey, and Slovak Republic.
