Xcel Energy Center to serve as Lynx's homecourt for 2017 season

The Minnesota Lynx announced on Thursday that the Xcel Energy Center shall be the WNBA franchise's homecourt for the 2017 season.

The team will relocate to the said venue to give way for the major renovation and complete shutdown of the Target Center, the team's current homecourt, which shall take place during the summer and early fall of 2017.

Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx President Chris Wright said:
“Our fans will enjoy the experience and amenities that Xcel Energy Center has to offer, while eagerly anticipating the conclusion of our newly renovated home in Minneapolis in time for the 2018 Lynx season.
We look forward to bringing the three-time champion Lynx to the Xcel Energy Center and the opportunity to showcase these amazing athletes who are incredible role models both on and off the court. We also anticipate continuing to build our relationship with the City of St. Paul and becoming more integrated with this first-class community.”
The Xcel Sports Center is located in St. Paul, Minnesota and has a capacity of 18,568. It is also the home of NHL's Minnesota Wild.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said:
“I’m thrilled to be welcoming Minnesota’s three-time WNBA champions to the City of Saint Paul for their 2017 season.
The Lynx are a powerhouse of a team, and an amazing group of athletes to watch – and we hope fans from across the state enjoy doing so from the capital city.”
